Congress leader assaulted

Staff Correspondent

TUMKUR: A group of eight persons allegedly entered the house of Tumkur District Congress Committee member Girish at Adehalli near here on Saturday and ransacked it.

The police said Mr. Girish, who had been assaulted by the group, had been hospitalised. Other members of his family had suffered injuries.

The police said Mr. Girish was asleep when the group woke up his aunt, Bhagyamma, on the pretext of meeting him "for obtaining his signature on some papers". Even as she opened the door and allowed them in, the group members assaulted his family members and ransacked his house. Mr. Girish, who came out of his room, was assaulted.

The police said they found an almirah of Mr. Girish lying in a field at Kerekatte, one km away from his house. Cash and valuables were intact in the almirah.
