KOTTAYAM: An all-party meeting held here on Saturday to review cleaning operations in the district has decided to mobilise Panchayati Raj institutions to take the lead at the grass-root level. Making his concluding remarks, District Collector Raju Narayana Swamy said the district would go in for a major cleaning operation from October 9 to 13. As part of the operations, camps would be held at the panchayat level on October 9. There would be ward-level camps on October 10 followed by door-to-door campaign on October 11 and 12. An all-party committee at the constituency level, with the MLA as chairman and tahasildar as convener, will coordinate the works. Special efforts would be taken to monitor the waste disposal from hotels, slaughterhouses etc, the Collector said. The cleaning efforts would be carried out with coordinated help from nine departments, he said. MLAs including Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy and departmental heads participated in the conference.
