Allotment for B.Ed

Thiruvananthapuram: The Commissioner for Entrance Examinations has carried out the allotment for the B.Ed. courses in the State. The allotment details are available on the website cee.kerala.gov.in/ capbed. The course and college allotted to each student can be known from the homepage. Students should pay the stipulated fee at the designated branches of the Canara Bank on October 9 and 10. Students can reorder or cancel their higher-order options till 5 p.m. on October 10. - Special Correspondent

Pannian seeks action

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Pannian Ravindran, MP, has demanded that the Union Government take action against officials who reportedly misled the candidates who turned up for the army recruitment rally held at Sulthan Bathery in Wayanad on October 6. News about the rally gave an impression that it was a general recruitment drive and when the candidates turned up, the officials announced that it was reserved for certain sections. This had created undue hardships to the youth and hence action should be taken to prevent such incidents, he said. - Special Correspondent

CPI(M) leader's death mourned

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI State secretary Veliyam Bhargavan has condoled the death of CPI(M) Alappuzha district secretary P. Sudhakaran. Mr. Bhargavan said in a condolence message on Sunday that Sudhakaran was a leader who made remarkable contribution to build up the Communist movement in Mavelikara taluk.

One dies of fever

THRISSUR: A 45-year-old man from the Marathakara area, near here, died of fever in Elite Mission Hospital in the city on Sunday. The hospital gave his name as Cheruvathur Anto. Initially, he was suspected to have Weil's disease (rat fever), but the tests were negative, according to District Medical Officer Rajagopal. Kaniamparambil Sadiqu, 38, and Maju, 33, arrested on charges of cheating several people with fraudulent loan offers, were referred to the Government medical college hospital on Sunday with suspected symptoms of chikungunya. The accused, hailing from Ambalappuzha, were arrested at Guruvayur on Saturday. - Staff Reporter

Three killed in accident

MANJERI: Three persons were killed and 23 others injured when a jeep rammed into a mini-lorry and a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation bus at Thrikkalangode, near here, on Sunday morning. The deceased were identified as Biyyumma, 80, her grandson Ismail alias Bava, 22, and jeep driver M. Mathew alias Appachan, 33. All of them hail from Devarshola, near Gudalur. The injured were admitted to different hospitals. - Staff Reporter

Bioverve-2006' from Wednesday

PATHANAMTHITTA: The Bio-science Department at the Mar Thoma College in Thiruvalla will hold a two-day national seminar, `Bioverve-2006,' at the college on October 11 and 12, according to Prof. Thomas Mathew, head of the department. The Mar Thoma Metropolitan Philipose Mar Chrysostum will inaugurate the seminar on Wednesday. Dr. G.M. Nair, Dr. C.S. Paulose, Dr. Nikki Xavier and Dr. Anilkumar, all scientists, will lead the seminar, according to Prof. Mathew. KOZHIKODE: A national seminar on `Eco-tourism in India' was organised by the Department of Commerce, Providence Women's College on Saturday. District Collector A. Jayathilak inaugurated the seminar. In his inaugural address, the Collector stressed the need to move from Mass Tourism to Class Tourism. T.P. Sasikumar, Director, Academic Staff College, University of Calicut, delivered the keynote address. The seminar comprised four technical sessions. — Staff Reporter

Interactive session for students

KOZHIKODE: District Collector A. Jayathilak will lead an interactive session for students of High Schools and Higher Secondary Schools. It is being held as part of programmes aimed at the comprehensive development of the district. The programme is being organised by the Students Counselling Centre of the Department of Adult and Continuing Education and Extension Services under Calicut University. The session aims at providing guidance to students of Plus One and Plus Two.
