Big consignment of spurious liquor seized

  • "Both were allegedly adulterating country-made liquor to make profit"
  • "Both are registered bad character of Dwarka police station, have been arrested several times"

NEW DELHI: A mother and son duo has been arrested by the Special Staff of the South-West Delhi from Dwarka on charge of adulterating country-made liquor to make profit.

The police have seized a big consignment of spurious liquor at their instance.

During the drive against the sale of illicit liquor in the run up to Diwali, the Special Staff received a tip-off that one Sanjeev Sharma had been illegally manufacturing liquor in his house at Palam village.

Subsequently, a team led by Inspector Rajpal Dabas of Special Staff raided the house and arrested Sanjeev Sharma (26) along with his mother, Vimlesh (50), and recovered 34 cartons containing country-made liquor of "Haryana No. 1" and five bags containing huge quantity of "Murthal No. 1" liquor, besides a colouring agent, sealing machines and 3,000 empty bottles. During interrogation, Sanjeev allegedly disclosed that he and his mother were into the business of selling spurious country-made liquor for the past seven years.

According to the police, Sanjeev has been arrested at least nine times, while his mother has been arrested on 10 occasions.

"Both are registered bad character of Dwarka police station and have been arrested several times under the Excise Act," said a police officer.

    `Mixed water'

Investigations revealed that the accused used to buy country-made liquor from Haryana, mix water and colouring agent in them, again pack them in pouches and bottles and supplied them to their clients. The accused claimed that they supplied the spurious liquor at Dabri and Keshavpuram.

The police have launched a hunt to nab the persons who used to purchase liquor from the duo.
