KOZHIKODE: The police are on their toes following clashes between the workers of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Rashtriya Sweyamsevak Sangh (RSS) in the rural areas of Kozhikode district. At least 19 persons were injured in clashes between CPI (M) and RSS workers at Muchukunnu, near Koilandy, on Sunday night. Six of them were admitted to the Koyilandy taluk hospital and the rest to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. A large group of policemen has been posted in the area. Cases have been registered against the activists of both the parties at the Koyilandy police station in connection with the incident. A wordy duel over the functioning of an RSS shakha triggered the clashes between the CPI (M) and the RSS, the police said. Meanwhile, the 12-hour hartal called by the CPI (M) at Muchukunnu on Monday passed off peacefully.
Shops closed
Shops and other commercial establishments remained closed. However, the movement of vehicles was not affected. In another incident, one person was injured in a clash between CPI (M) and BJP activists at Oorathu, near Kuttiyadi, on Monday morning. The Kuttiyadi police took into custody two persons in connection with the incident. The injured BJP activist Nadukandi Dharmarajan was admitted to the hospital. A gang of six persons attacked him.
