Auto driver hacked to death

Special Correspondent

GULBARGA: A 28-year-old autorickshaw driver was hacked to death near Subash Chowk in the city on Tuesday by a gang of four.

The victim identified as Jagadish Shivalingappa Naikwadi, suffered multiple injuries in the attack and died on the spot.

The identity of the victim was established from the driver's licence in his possession. Police suspect that the gang members had travelled in the autorickshaw before the driver was attacked. Police recovered a knife from the spot. Senior police officials, including Superintendent of Police Manish Kharbikar, visited the spot.

A team of police officials has been despatched to Kere Bhosga village on the outskirts of Gulbarga city, from where the victim hailed.

Police said the victim was allegedly involved in a dispute with another gang of a neighbouring village and a case had been registered in this connection in the Rural police station. Police are investigating whether the old dispute was the reason for the murder. The body of the victim was shifted to the Government Hospital for post-mortem examination.
