dated October 11, 1956: Constitution for Kashmir

The Constituent Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir, which had been in existence for nine years, entered the last phase on October 10 when, amidst thunderous cheers, the State's draft Constitution was presented by the Drafting Committee Chairman and Finance Minister, Mr. Giridharilal Dogra. The draft Constitution lays down clearly that the State is an integral part of India, whose permanent residents will have all rights guaranteed to them under the Indian Constitution. It provides for a parliamentary system of Government with a head of State known as Sadar-i-Riyasat.
