HYDERABAD: Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil has urged State Governments to establish units on the lines of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) for tackling growing security needs, including terrorist threats likely to be faced by industries and vital installations. Talking to reporters after reviewing the combined passing-out parade of the 21st batch of Assistant Commandants and 30th batch of Sub-Inspectors/ executives at the National Industrial Security Academy (NISA), the premier training institution of CISF, here on Tuesday, he said he would also discuss this issue with States. Earlier addressing the trainees, he said CISF would be expanded in the wake of increasing demand from various sectors for protection by it. Initially, it used to provide security to public sector undertakings but was now giving security cover to scientific institutions, including those of space, atomic and electronics. The growing demand for CISF security showed the high degree of professionalism adopted by the agency. It was also now providing consultancy to private sector. Pointing out that the country was witnessing challenges from new quarters, he said that terrorism was a matter of great concern. If any important private industry, financial institute or other installation was likely to become targets of terrorists, protection would be needed by them and all these aspects would be kept in mind while expanding the force. He said CISF was deployed extensively in 12 States, which were badly affected by left wing extremism.
