Ramanathapuram: Sethu Institute of Technology, Kariapatti, lifted the Dr. E.M. Abdullah memorial Trophy with an all-win record in the five-team league of the State-level inter-engineering college volleyball tournament organised by Dr. Syed Ammal Engineering College at Ramanathapuram on Monday night. PSNA College of Engineering, Dindigul, finished runner-up with three wins. In the last match of the league, Sethu Institute prevailed over PSNA College in a closely fought match. Ayyappan scalps five
At Karaikudi, Ayyappan's five for 29 and a half century by Palaniappan helped Alagappa University College of Physical Education defeat Alagappa Government Arts College narrowly by two runs and enter the final of the Alagappa University inter-collegiate cricket tournament at Karaikudi on Tuesday. The scores (semifinals): AUCPE 135 for six in 25 overs (Palaniappan 50) bt Alagappa Government Arts College 133 for eight in 25 overs (V. Senthil Kumar 41, Ayyappan five for 29). Raja Duraisingam Govt. Arts College Sivagangai 131 in 24.2 overs (Sikkandarlingam 60, Sathiyendran five for 20) bt Sonai Meenal Arts and Science College, Muthukulathur 48 in 11.1 overs (Palanimurugan four for four).
Cricket tournament
Alternate Views Event Management Company, in association with Majestic Cricket Club, will conduct a state-level prize money cricket tournament for AVEM Cup at Madurai during the third week of November. The total prize money involved will be Rs. one lakh. The winner will get Rs 50,000 and the runner-up Rs. 20,000. Entries close on September 30.
