Mumbai: Rahul Vengsarkar's aggressive 92 (59b, 5x6, 9x4) steered Vijay Merchant XI to a healthy 329 against Khandu Rangnekar XI on the first day of the three-day Sportstar Trophy MCA under-19 selection tournament at the Elf-Vengsarkar ground here on Tuesday. In another league match at the Karnatak ground, Cross Maidan, Dattu Phadkar XI — after being put in to bat — was bowled out for 117 by Vijay Manjrekar XI. The 21st edition of the tournament was inaugurated by MCA's managing committee member and selector Milind Rege. The scores: Dattu Phadkar XI 117 (Sanket Chavan 32, Viral Rathod five for 18) vs. Vijay Manjrekar XI 60 for two (Bhavesh Sharma batting 38). Vijay Merchant XI 329 (Swapnil Salvi 48, S. Ramani 28, Jeff Pereira 67, Rohan Bagwe 35, Rahul Vengsarkar 92, Akshay Jhambekar seven for 86) vs. Khandu Rangnekar XI 16 for no loss.
