TALENTED: A scene from one of the plays staged by schoolchildren.
BANGALORE: Some 75 children, mostly from government schools, spent their Dasara vacation a little differently: they took training in acting and staged a series of plays at Ravindra Kalakshethra. Professionals from K.S. Muddapa Smaraka Trust honed the acting skills of these children during the last three weeks culminating in the three-day show, Tuesday being the last day.
Participants
Students from government high schools at Sarakki, Kathriguppe, Gavipuram, and Sunkaenahalli and from St. Ann's Degree College for Women, Ulsoor, and Sri Siddaganga Vidyasamsthe School at Shivanahalli participated in the event. The plays written by M. Byregowda, secretary and treasurer of the trust, were enacted. They included Soreburude, Panchavarnada Gini, Jala-Marjala, Handipurana, Budabelli Nadupachche Gonemuttu, Elenakku Adike Mataadi and Sunna Kunigadaga. They are woven around the themes such as importance of unity and secularism, environment protection, feminism and mythological myths. The trust has been organising similar programmes for children from lesser-known schools during vacations for the last few years.
Plays enacted
Students from rural and suburban areas enacted these plays after participating in workshops conducted by the trust. The children were also asked to paint the pictures depicting the characters and scenes from the plays.
