Ivy League wins

HYDERABAD: Ivy League Academy (Hakimpet) emerged the under-19 boys champions defeating Chinmaya International School (Coimbatore) 2-0 in the South Zone CBSE inter-schools hockey tournament here on Tuesday.

After a barren first-half, winger Vivek Reddy scored the first goal in the 49th minute. Even before the stunned rivals could recover from this blow, Sharan also found the target within three minutes.

In the under-14 boys final, Sainik School (Bijapur) scored an emphatic 5-1 victory against KLE Society's School, Naipani. Shivanand struck thrice in the 23rd, 39th and 45th minutes and Vinay (30th) and Sahab Gouda (49th) complete the tally for the winners. Shiv reduced the margin.

R. Dilip Raj Naik of Ivy League Academy was adjudged the Player of the Tournament, while Nisarg Yagnik of Chinmaya International School was declared the best goalkeeper. Shivanand of Sainik School Bijapur emerged the highest scorer.

Olympian N. Mukesh Kumar gave away the prizes.

Other results:

Third place: Under-19: HPS, Ramanthapur bt VPNN, Kondapur 5-0. Under-14: HPS, Ramanthapur bt VPNN, Kondapur 4-1.

Double for Prithvihas

Prithvihas and Mrinalini bagged a double each in the AP State open junior tennis tournament organised by the Ganesh Raman Tennnis Academy (Bowenpally) here.

Prithvihas won the boys' under-10 and 12 singles title, while Mrinalini performed the similar feat in girls' category.

The results:

Boys: Under-10: Prithvihas bt Ankit Reddy 10-3. Under-12: Prithvihas bt Alla Uday Shanker 10-3.

Girls: Under-10: Mrinalini bt Nainika Reddy 10-4. Under-12: Mrinalini bt Ch. Hashmitha 10-4.

Rao's pair wins title

K. Nageswara Rao and R. Bhaskar Rao emerged winners with 196 IMPs, while D.N. Gupta and G.P. Sinha with 191 IMPs finished second. Ajay Yadnik and R.Chandra Mohan (77 IMPs) were third in the Fateh Maidan Club master pairs bridge championship East-West direction.

In the North-South direction, V. Ram Babu and J.D. Batliwala finished at the top, while M. Shyamsunder Rao and S. Kumar and the duo of D. Sriramurthy and T.R. Rao were second and third respectively.

It was also announced that the Hyderabad Club will organise master pairs bridge tournament on October 15 in it's premises and further details can be had from G. Somi Reddy, Secretary, APSBA, Ph: 9441262945.

Meanwhile, the Krishna District Bridge Association will organise the 36th AP State open bridge championship from November 10 to 12 at the Vijayawada Club. Competitions will be held in team of four duplicate, board-a-match and master pairs events. Entries close by November 5 and further details can be had from Ph: 9440229588.

Easy for St.Theresa's

St. Theresa's School scored an emphatic 8-0 win over Government High School in the third Dr. John de Souza prize money inter-school football tournament here.

Big win for HPS (Ramanthapur)

Hyderabad Public School (Ramanthapur) scored a convincing 137-run win over Guntur Vikas in the Parle Cup inter-schools under-17 cricket tournament here.

Parle Cup inter-schools (under-17): HPS (Ramanthapur) 281 for eight (Bala Sivaram 75, S. Anirudh Reddy 88, M. Shiva Simha four for 38) bt Guntur Vikas 144 (A.N. Tejasvi 32, L. Neerav three for 18, C. Radha Mallik three for 27).

St. Mary's Jr. College (Himayatnagar) 191 (A. Mehtab Khan 30, Naveed Siddiqui 44, Sarfarz 37, Rohan three for 14) bt St. Joseph's PS 120 (Basharath 31, Lekh Raj three for 30).

`A' division one-day knock-out: Ameerpet 76 lost to Kakatiya 77 for seven (Rajesh four for 34).

Abidi to lead

Syed Ali Akber Abidi, a second year MBA student of Amjad Ali Khan College, will lead the Osmania University football team in the South Zone inter-university football tournament at Chennai.

NIS course

The Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) informs that all the PETs and the PDs between 20-40 years are eligible to apply for the proposed six-week NIS orientation course to be held here from October 14.

Prof P. Chinnappa Reddy, Technical Advisor to Government (Sports and Physical Education), said that a proposal is being considered to treat the above course period to be as `on duty.'
