Palakkad: An unbeaten 193-run partnership for the opening wicket between Sebastian Antony (88) and Sorab (93) enabled Ernakulam post a 10-wicket win over host Palakkad in the Central Zone senior inter-district cricket tournament at the Fort Maidan grounds here on Tuesday. Electing to bat first, the Palakkad openers Abinav and Krishna Chandran squeezed the best out of the dry pitch to boost the scorecard. The former, in particular, was in great command on his way to scoring a fluent103, which contained 11 hits to the fence. Despite Abinav's valiant ton, Palakkad folded meekly for 192 in 43 overs. Aravind Varma turned out to be the wrecker-in-chief. The medium pacer, who was a bit erratic in the initial stages, hit back strongly to scalp six wickets. Ernakulam, which lost narrowly to Thrissur a couple of days back, preferred not to relax this time. Openers Sebastian and Sorab were on song. They thrashed the Palakkad bowlers to all parts of the ground to seal the victory. The scores: Palakkad 192 in 43 overs (Abinav 103, Aravind Varma six for 75, Arun Raj three for 56) lost to Ernakulam 193 without loss in 37 overs (Sebastian Antony 88, Sorab 88).
