Staff Reporter

Blood samples being sent to Hyderabad for testing

  • Dengue symptoms are high temperature, headache and eye pain
  • Primary health centres equipped with ample medicines

KADAPA: Five dengue cases have been reported in Kadapa district apart from 50,000 cases of chikungunya and 2,025 cases of malaria since January this year, Kadapa District Medical and Health Officer K. Pitchi Reddy said on Tuesday.

Viral fevers were rampant in Jammalamadugu, Mylavaram and Peddamudiyam mandals, but none of them were affected by dengue, he said.

Mere viral activity could not be construed as a case of dengue, he said while addressing an awareness camp for students of three girls junior colleges at Jammalamadugu.

    One man dies

One Ramana Reddy died of dengue in Nemalladinne village in Peddamudiyam mandal some time ago, the DMHO stated.

Subsequently, blood samples of several villagers having dengue symptoms were collected and sent to Institute of Preventive Medicines, Hyderabad. However, IPM reports did not confirm any case of dengue.

It merely found viral activity, Dr. Pitchi Reddy said. Dengue symptoms were high temperature, headache and eye pain, he said.

    Directions to public

He advised people with similar symptoms to consult a doctor and undergo treatment.

Mosquitoes spread dengue and viral fevers and hence mosquito nets should be used besides keeping surroundings clean, he said.

Required medicines were available in primary health centres (PHCs) . Medicines worth Rs. 40,000 were being supplied to each PHC every quarter, he said.

Doctors Sankar Reddy, Sujatha and Narayana Reddy also participated.
