M.P. Chief Minister addresses police brass

  • CM directs them to curb activities of SIMI
  • "There is no room for complacency"

BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has asked the police officers not to succumb to any political pressure while dealing with law and order. He has also directed them to take strict action against organised crime and work with dedication to curb the activities of naxalites and those linked with the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). Mr. Chauhan was addressing a meeting of Inspectors-General, Deputy Inspectors-General and Superintendents of Police at Mantralaya here on Monday.

The Chief Minister asked the police officers to remain sensitive and responsive to the law-abiding citizens, especially the tribals and weaker sections. He said that the police should always be prompt when it comes to taking action against crime committed on those belonging to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, women and minorities.

The Chief Minister said it was due to the police pressure that the naxalites had failed to expand their activities in the State. "Still there is no room for complacency," he said and went on to emphasise the need for constant vigil and effective measures to contain the activities of SIMI.

The Chief Minister said that the police and administrative machinery had succeeded in controlling the communal situation at Dhar on the Bhojshala issue.

He also appreciated the role of the police in controlling the communal situation in Chhindwara, Betul and Sagar districts. "A recent `India Today' survey has placed Madhya Pradesh at the third place on the law and order front and the Madhya Pradesh police deserve full compliments," he said.
