Staff Reporter
ALAPPUZHA : Alappuzha District Collector K.R. Viswambharan, who assumed charge on Monday, said he would give priority to implementing sanitation works in the district. At a meet-the-press programme organised by the Alappuzha Press Club on Tuesday, Mr. Viswambharan said coordination of various departments was necessary to implement cleaning works effectively. He said ward-level groups should be involved in the cleaning process. Mr. Viswambharan said the Government's efforts to control chikungunya outbreak in the district started showing results. He expressed confidence that the epidemic outbreak would be completely controlled in the district in a few days. Health Secretary Biswas Mehta, who was also present, said the Government's efforts to control chikungunya yielded results. The number of patients with epidemic fever arriving at various hospitals in the district started decreasing. Mr. Mehta said mosquito eradication was possible only with the concerted action of the public and authorities. He said vigilance should be stepped up during rainy season when vector borne diseases spread.
