TIRUPATI: TTD Trust Board Chairman B. Karunakar Reddy on Tuesday called on the Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram at Chennai and sought his help in getting one lakh `mangalasutrams' prepared in the Government mint at Mumbai. The TTD Board had recently decided to perform mass marriages benefiting one lakh couples in the State and to present a one gram golden mangala suthram each to all the couples as the `prasadam'. Information reaching here said that the Finance Minister reacted favourably to the TTD request and promised to convene a meeting with all concerned at New Delhi in one or two weeks. He asked the TTD to send its delegation to attend the meeting to finalise the quantum and the supply of the gold required for the massive task, the design and other related logistics. Sources said that Mr. Chidambaram also asked the TTD to conduct a similar programme in Tamil Nadu too for which the Board Chairman agreed in principle and promised to place the matter before the Board for a positive decision.
