JAIPUR: Private educational institutions aided by the Rajasthan Government have demanded withdrawal of a 10 per cent reduction in aid to colleges and an additional provision of Rs. 30 crores for both schools and colleges to ensure their survival. A delegation of Swayamsevi Shikshan Sanstha Sangh attended a meeting convened by the Chairman of the Public Grievances Redressal Committee, S.N. Gupta, here on Monday to press its demand to change the Government's aid policy. It said the cut in aid would lead to closure of educational institutions and ruin the future of thousands of students. Shikshan Sanstha Sangh president Satyavrat Samvedi said if a budget provision of Rs. 16 crores for primary and secondary schools and Rs. 9 crores for colleges was made, there would be no need to give annual grants to them. An imminent closure of private educational institutions would increase the cost of education manifold as commercial players would hike the fee. However, Mr. Samvedi's suggestion that the State Government pay salary to the employees of aided schools and colleges after depositing the funds payable by educational institutions in the treasury failed to cut ice with the committee members and Special Secretary (Finance) Subhash Sharma. Among others, State Principal Secretary (Education) C.K. Mathew and senior officers of the Finance, Accounts and Education Departments attended the meeting. The Committee Chairman, Mr. Gupta, agreed that the surplus lecturers could be appointed in the colleges where additional posts were vacant. Mr. Gupta said he would shortly make his recommendation to Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and apprise the Shikshan Sansthan Sangh of the final decision. The delegation comprised Sangh's secretary Shriram Dangayach, Employees' Association president Govind Sajnani and the State convenor Vijay Upadhyay.
