NEW DELHI: The weeklong MTNL Perfect Health Mela organised by the Heart Care Foundation of India and various government and non-government organisations opened at

The Sheikh Sarai MCD grounds here on Tuesday.

The mela is aimed at creating general awareness about the rising incidents of various diseases, specifically the dengue menace, and much-needed education about preventive measures.

Besides free blood tests with the help of modern gadgets, the mela will offers free health check-ups.

World Mental

Health Day

NEW DELHI: To mark World Mental Health Day, Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital here organised several programmes on Tuesday to help the cause of the mentally ill and their families.

The Mental Health Day's message was to create awareness about reducing risks, preventing suicide and recognising and treating mental illnesses.

A walk was organised from the hospital premises to India Gate over the weekend.

Handicrafts and Gifts Fair

NEW DELHI: Aimed at showcasing the languishing crafts of the country, the 22nd edition of the Indian Handicrafts and Gifts Fair Autumn 2006 will open at India Expo Centre and Mart in neighbouring Greater Noida on October 13.

The fair will showcase over 1,000 product categories ranging from textiles and furnishings to home décor and gift items manufactured by 2,000 leading companies. Organised by the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts, the five-day fair will present the finest in Indian craftsmanship and artistic finish.

EMPI Annual Book Fair

NEW DELHI: As part of its annual calendar event, EMPI Business School organised a three-day book fair at its premises this past week.

Titled "EMPI Annual Book Fair-2006", the fair's prime objective was to assist the central library and its users, both faculty and students, besides acquiring the latest management publications of their choice.

Well-known publishers, including Oxford University Press, Macmillan and Sage, participated in the fair.

Award for UBI

NEW DELHI: United Bank of India has won the Second Award in recognition of its excellent performance in lending to the Small Scale Industry sector during 2005-06.

The award was presented by Union Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee to United Bank of India CMD P. K. Gupta at a function here over the weekend.
