Speed up work on Vamsadhara, says Collector

Dairy farming for displaced


  • Land acquisition by December
  • Payment of compensation by March

    Srikakulam: Joint Collector M. Veerabrahmaiah on Tuesday directed officials concerned to complete acquisition of lands for the Vamsadhra project by December and payment of compensation to farmers by March next.

    Reviewing land acquisition and payment of compensation to project evacuees and rehabilitation of displaced families at his chambers here, the Joint Collector promised to hand over 10,530 acres required for the project by December.

    Dispute settlement

    If there were any disputes with farmers, compensation should be deposited in the court for acquisition of lands. Farmers might be advised to solve their problems through court. Mr.Veerabrahmaiah wanted local mandal revenue officer to take active part in the acquisition of lands as also in the construction of colonies for the evacuees. As many as 1,310 structures would have to be removed, he said.

    Mr.Veerabrahmaiah said plans were being finalised to provide employment to displaced persons through dairy farming.

    The District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) and the Animal Husbandry Department would prepare the plans.Visakha Dairy would open centres for procurement of milk. Initially 400 families would have to vacate. At least 100 dairy units should be ready for them.

    Power connections

    He wanted Transco officials to consider the possibility of transferring power connections of displaced families' houses to proposed rehabilitation colonies.

    He said in the coming two months 800 families might have to be rehabilitated in the new colonies. Action should be taken to ensure all basic facilities to members of these colonies, he said. A passbook giving details of assistance being provided by all agencies to the evacuees would be given to all displaced families.

    District Revenue Officer B.Yadagiri, RDOs S. Venkateswara Rao and PMJ Babu, Superintending Engineer of Vamsadhara project K. Sudheer, land acquisition officers and MROs participated in the meeting.
