MANGALORE: If things go as planned, the 1,600 employees of 544 functional primary milk producers' cooperative societies under the purview of Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Producers' Union Ltd. (DKMUL) will have a welfare trust set up for them in the course of next five months. M.N. Venkataramu, managing director of DKMUL, told The Hindu here on Tuesday that the process of setting up the Haalu Uthpadakara Sahakara Sanghagala Naukarara Kshemabivruddhi Trust (Dairy Cooperative Societies Employees' Welfare Trust) was in its preliminary stages. Milk unions in Vishakapatnam and Kolar have set up similar trusts. The DKMUL will obtain by-laws from these existing trusts, he said and carry out a detailed study of the same and come up with its own by-laws for the proposed trust. This in turn would be placed before the board of DKMUL and also discussed with the employees, Mr. Venkataramu said. Once approved, the trust would then be registered.
