Commodity prices

The following were the rates (Rs. per kg) of essential commodities in local wholesale market on Tuesday, according to the Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Groundnut oil-60, Palmolein oil - 44, Sunflower oil-54, Tamarind (flower variety) 28 to 31, Chillies - 60 to 70, Rice (2716)-14, Rice (superfine)-15, Rice (sona masoori)-18 to 19, Rice (samba masoori)-16, Blackgram-54.25, Redgram-26 to 32.

Wage limit for ESI

coverage up

Monthly wage limit for the purpose of coverage under the ESI Act has been enhanced from Rs. 7,500 to Rs. 10,000 per month with effect from October 1. Consequently, all persons whose wages do not exceed Rs. 10,000 will be covered under the provisions of ESI Act. This excludes remuneration for overtime work.

Assumes charge

R.S. Jamwal, regional director, Central Board for Workers' Education, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, has been transferred from Delhi and posted at Regional Directorate in the city. He has assumed charge and convened a joint meeting of education officers and staff.
