BANGALORE: Yes, B-school students have fun too; even if most of the time they stay up nights poring over dense study material and preparing themselves for the competitive job scene. Life at a B-school can have other experiences ranging from cultural and social events to opportunities to observe the world of business at close quarters. One such major occasion at Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, is its annual business festival: VISTA. The Forum for Industrial Interaction (FII), which takes care of all student-industry-academia interaction at IIMB, enables students in activities that help them get to know the practical, real corporate and business world. FII also organises VISTA, one of the region's biggest B-school fests.
Theme
VISTA 2006 to be held from October 13 to 15 will be around the theme "Business Beyond Boundaries" with several new events and the return of old favourites. With Reliance Industries Ltd as corporate partner there will an added dimension to the events. Keeping the theme in mind, there will be a media conclave on October 14, a platform where media personalities such as The Hindu Editor-in-Chief N.Ram and CNN-IBN's Rajdeep Sardesai will speak about the evolution and future of the Indian media industry and its importance in a growing economy. The online counterpart of the fest, Vista Online Wars consists of several big and small games played on cyberspace. First launched in 2005, the event was a huge success attracting 1.2 million hits. This year, Vista Online includes simulated trading games, and more than 2,000 registered participants are fighting it out for a net prize money of Rs. 4 lakh. MCX CommXpert is an opportunity for finance enthusiasts to have a ringside view into the world of commodities trading. Becoming an investment banker is the dram of many management students. This time Team VISTA and FXCM will give participants a peek into the exciting world of Forex trading: FXCM-Fastforwards. Over 1,300 participants from 75 colleges will be in teams experiencing the excitement and challenge of buying and selling in millions across different currencies. Another event is Moneybhai Investor Hunt, with participants sharpening their trading skills through a virtual trading game with real prices. Online@ 9 is the Gaming Zone, spread over two weeks, where there will be a number of games played in realtime, leading up to the main events on the IIMB campus.
