Heathrow terminal evacuated

LONDON: British authorities evacuated Terminal Two at London's Heathrow Airport for about four hours Tuesday, after a man dropped off a package near the Air Algeria and Lufthansa desks and ran away, airport staff members said.

About 2,000 people were ordered out of the terminal, which houses many European carriers, at around 1 p.m. (1200GMT), police said. Passengers and staff began to trickle back into the airport around 5:00 p.m. (1600GMT).

Airport staff members said the package was found near the Air Algeria and Lufthansa desks.

One man was in custody in a West London police station, authorities said. Police would not discuss the contents of the package. - AP
