42 child workers rescued by officials

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Three special teams constituted by the Hyderabad district administration rescued 42 children working in several hotels and restaurants in the twin cities after conducting several raids on Tuesday.

The raids came in the wake of the amendments made to the Child Labour (Prohibition and regulation) Act of 1986 coming into force on Tuesday.

The rescued children were shifted to the residential bridge schools in Mehdipatnam, Sanathnagar and Saidabad and cases were registered against the hotel managements, district Collector R.V. Chandravadan said in a press release.

More raids soon

The Collector disclosed that he had reliable information about children being employed as domestic workers in the poshlocalities of Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Marredpally and Srinagar colony.

He warned that raids would be conducted shortly. He said he would write to 250 residential welfare associations on preventing children being employed.
