BANGALORE: Inordinate working hours, long periods of separation from their dear ones and expectations for family and society are resulting in mental stress to policemen working in Bangalore. The police need to tackle these occupation hazards in order to serve their family and the society better, C.R. Chandrashekar, Professor in National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences, said here on Tuesday. Mr. Chandrashekar was speaking at the World Health Day organised by the city police here on Tuesday. The function was organised in association with Karnataka Association for Psychiatric Disability and Parihar, the centre for Research, Training and Development of Women and Children. Mr. Chandrashekar said stress was found to be common among the policemen, both from lower as well as higher levels, though they were found to be normal in the medical tests. This was causing depression and insomnia and leading them to react negatively with people. This attitude of policemen also affected members of their families, he said.
Meditation
The professor asked the police personnel to lead a positive life by practicing meditation, socialising with people, listening to music and enjoying their work. He expressed the need to teach youngsters ways to manage stress in their lives.
