Kochi: Nineteen families who have handed over their property for setting up the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. yard at Irumpanam are set to get title deeds for land offered as part of the rehabilitation package after a wait of 10 years. The title deeds will be distributed on October 17 by District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish. Indian Oil Corporation approached the State Government with a request to acquire and hand over the land required for the yard around 10 years ago. The 19 families had agreed that they would not take legal measures regarding the compensation.
Rehabilitation
The corporation had promised in return that they would be rehabilitated. Though the district administration handed over the acquired land, the rehabilitated people were not given title deeds. Following discussions held by the district administration, the corporation surrendered the land. The decision to give the title deeds was taken after classifying the land as ``poramboke'' again.
