Wife dies, husband battling for life

NEW DELHI: An elderly woman, who along with her septuagenarian husband was stabbed at their Chittaranjan Park residence in South Delhi on Monday night, succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday. While her husband is stated to be a critical condition, the police have launched a hunt for a property dealer suspected to be involved in the crime. According to the police, 70-year-old Surejeet Kaur, wife of Mohan Singh (73), succumbed to her injuries at Max Hospital in the morning. "Her husband's condition is serious," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Delhi) Anil Shukla, adding that a hunt was on for the property dealer, Manjit Singh, who is suspected to have stabbed the couple.

The incident came to light around 10-45 p.m. on Monday when a profusely bleeding Mohan Singh, who lives on the first floor, came downstairs and informed one of his neighbours that he and his wife had been stabbed by Manjit Singh. Mr. Singh gave the telephone number of his daughter, who is married and lives in Greater Kailash, and asked his neighbours to inform her. The police were also called in.

Four held for allegedly selling pirated VCDs

NEW DELHI: Four persons have been arrested by the South Delhi police for allegedly selling pirated compact discs and digital video discs. The police claim to have recovered more than 4,000 pirated VCDs and DVDs from them.

Jasvinder Sharma of Indian Music Industry had reported to the South Delhi police that pirated software was being sold from adjacent shops at Kashmiri Market in Malviya Nagar. A raid was carried out at the shops and Vijay Kumar Bindroo and Nakul Chawla were arrested. The police allegedly recovered 797 pirated VCDs and DVDs seized from Vijay's shop, while 370 pirated VCDs were recovered from the shop of Nakul.

Delhi policemen donate blood

NEW DELHI: At least 110 officers and men of the Delhi police donated blood on Tuesday at a donation camp organised at the Vikaspuri police lines in West Delhi.

Organised with the help of Indian Red Cross Society, the camp has become an annual event. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Third and Fourth Battalions of Delhi Armed Police) said the men and officers had volunteered to donate blood to help meet the needs of the Capital in general and dengue patients in particular.

Illicit liquor seized: one held

NEW DELHI: One person has been arrested by the South Delhi police for allegedly manufacturing illicit liquor. The police claim to have recovered 105 litres of illegally manufactured liquor and 1,000 litres of raw material used in making the illicit liquor at his instance.

According to the police, the seizure was made following a raid conducted in the forest area near National Thermal Power Corporation in Badarpur on Monday night. The accused, identified as Amar Singh, was arrested on the spot.
