dated October 12, 1956: Attlee in Bombay

Earl Attlee, former British Prime Minister, arrived in Bombay on October 11 by a BOAC plane from London on a three-week official visit at the invitation of the Government of India. He was accompanied by Countess Attlee. Earl and Countess Attlee were received at the Santa Cruz airport by Mr. Morarji Desai, Chief Minister of Bombay. Speaking to reporters at the airport, Earl Attlee said he enjoyed the flight very much and he was very happy to be in India. He recalled that this was his fourth visit to the country and this one was purely for pleasure. "I am a very small man now," he added.
