dated October 12, 1956: Quake rocks Delhi

For the second time within a week, Delhi experienced another earthquake on October 10. It was felt at about 9 p.m. and lasted for about a minute. This tremor was more intense than the previous one and people ran into the streets from houses and offices as they felt the buildings shaking. Some houses collapsed and fire engines and ambulance squads rushed to the areas. The Meteorological office recorded the shock with its epicentre 18 miles from the observatory in New Delhi.
