NEW DELHI: The Centre proposes to take over delivery of medical services from the States to serve insured persons directly under the Employees State Insurance (ESI) Scheme, Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Chandra Sekhar Sahu said on Wednesday. Already 22 Employees State Insurance Corporation hospitals were taken over for being run as model hospitals. He was launching IT-enabled services of the ESIC here. The online service was being made available in the Delhi and Haryana regions of the ESIC and would soon be extended to the entire country to cover 3.5 crore beneficiaries. The IT-enabled services, for faster and better delivery, will enable online registration of employers and payment of their contribution, and registration of employees. In the Haryana region, the project will cover the ESIC regional office at Faridabad, the divisional office at Ambala and 18 branch offices. In the Delhi region, it will cover the ESIC headquarters office, the regional office, the divisional office and four branch offices, besides the ESI Hospitals at Okhla and Basaidarapur, six ESI dispensaries in the Okhla area and the Central Medical Store. Mr. Sahusaid the wage ceiling for ESI coverage was increased from Rs. 7,500 to 10,000 with effect from October 1, 2006.
