TIRUPATI: Regional Science Centre, Tirupati, has initiated a novel programme to lure students and general public to "experience" science at its best.

As per the special package `spend a day at the science centre," students can involve themselves for a full day in science activities including demonstrations, magic shows, planetarium shows and a guided tour of the indoor exhibitions as well as outdoor Life Park and Science Park.

Concession offered

A maximum of 250 students will be accommodated under this programme and hence school managements from the nearby districts can plan for an excursion as concessional tariffs are being offered.

The pre-historic life park is an added attraction as it throws light on the forms of life, including reptiles, aves, mammals, arthropods and molluscs, that once existed on the planet. Thanks to the latest technology, the mammoth creatures are made to `turn' their heads towards the visitors, howl, grunt and roar at them, which is a visual treat for children. The programme is offered as a Children's Day gift and can be availed up to November 14. Details of the package can be had on 0877-228 6202.

Competitions

As part of the `Year of Biodiversity' celebrations, the centre will be conducting the preliminary written quiz for selection to the National Bio-diversity Quiz competition for 7th and 8th class students on October 14. Similarly, the `World Wildlife Week' celebrations begin at the centre on October 12 (Thursday) will comprise a painting contest, family quiz etc.
