Russian banker killed

MOSCOW:
A branch manager of Russia's biggest state bank was shot dead in Moscow in a contract killing, the city prosecutor said. The banker, Alexander Plokhin, was shot in the head as was leaving the elevator near his flat on Tuesday night, Moscow Deputy Prosecutor Vladimir Ponevezhsky told reporters. He said investigators were looking at several theories of the killing, including the, banker's professional activity. Mr. Plokhin (58), was director of a retail branch of the state-owned Vneshtorgbank. He was appointed to the post in March. It is a second murder of a Russian banker in less than a month. Central Banker Andrei Kozlov was shot and killed last month. He was responsible for closing down banks suspected of money laundering.
