NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has indicted former Andhra Pradesh Governor Sushil Kumar Shinde (at present Union Power Minister) for granting remission of sentence to Congress leader and convict Gouru Venkata Reddy without making any independent enquiry into the material furnished by the Andhra Pradesh Government. A Bench set aside the order granting remission holding that it was clearly unsustainable. The Bench pointed out that the district Collector had stated that he relied on the reports given by the Superintendent of Police and the Revenue Divisional Officer that the convict's character and conduct was good and that he could lead a normal life.
