PALAKKAD: All the five IFS posts in the Territorial Eastern Forest Circle, headquartered in Palakkad, have been vacant for the past several months, affecting the functioning of the forest divisions and the Silent Valley National Park. The post of the Warden of the Silent Valley National Park has been vacant for more than a year. The statutory post of the Custodian of Vested Forests of the State and Conservator of Eastern Circle has been vacant for more than two months. The entire vested forest of the State is controlled and managed by the Custodian, headquartered in Palakkad. The posts of the Divisional Forest Officer of Palakkad and Nilambur North Division are also vacant. The post of the Principal of Kerala Forest Training School, Walayar, has been vacant for nearly a year. The school trains forest guards and foresters. Without a head, its ongoing training programme has been affected, said sources in the Forest Department. They said the non-filling of posts of the Custodian of Vested Forests of the State and those in the forest divisions of Palakkad and Nilambur would adversely affect the protection and management of forests.
