Puducherry: The traffic wing of Puducherry Police has introduced special measures to regulate the movement of vehicles to ensure the shopping public did not face any difficulties in view of Deepavali at important shopping centres in the town. A release from the Traffic Superintendent's office said here on Tuesday that no empty auto rickshaws would be permitted to ply on the entire stretch of Jawaharlal Nehru Street. Owners and staff of the shops situated on Jawaharlal Nehru Street, Mahatma Gandhi Road, Kosakadai Street, Mission Street and Anna Salai are requested to avoid parking their vehicles in front of their shops. Stern action would be taken against vehicle users if they violated the one-way traffic system in vogue at important traffic points here. The release also said that the pavement shop owners should not cause disturbance in any manner to pedestrians. The entire Jawaharlal Nehru street would be `vehicle free zone' on October 20. The police also made it clear that there should be no firing of crackers between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. the next day.
