Puducherry: The Regional Director of Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), Y.M. Parate, said in a release here on Wednesday that the Centre had notified the enhancement in the wage ceiling for coverage under the ESI scheme from Rs.7500 to Rs. 10,000 with effect from this month. He said that the ESIC was defraying cash benefits during contingencies of sickness, maternity and disablement due to employment injury, to the insured persons at the rate ranging from Rs. 14 to Rs. 145 per day. In view of the enhancement of the wage ceiling, 10 new slabs of standard benefit rates had been introduced for the benefit of insured persons in higher wage rates ranging from Rs.150 to Rs.195 per day. Mr. Parate appealed to the employers in the Union territory to ensure that they complied with the registration of factory in Form 01 for factories and establishments that were newly coming under the purview of the coverage considering the amendment. All those employees who were in the wage bracket of Rs. 7500 to Rs. 10,000 should be covered immediately by submitting their Declaration Forms to the branch office of the ESI Corporation. Employers can contact the Regional Director of the ESIC at Mudaliarpet or the branch managers of the corporation at Mudaliarpet, Gandhi Nagar or Karaikal for any clarification.
