SEEKING REMEDY: Ryan Institute students meet Superintendent of Police B. Srikanth to file a complaint on Wednesday.
PUDUCHERRY: The police have arrested five persons for allegedly cheating a large number of students by offering them fake certificate courses. The arrest came after students, who have joined a pre-primary teachers training institute near the bus stand, formally complained to the police that they were cheated. The students in their complaint to Senior Superintendent of Police B. Srikanth on Wednesday said they had joined for the diploma course last year. Since the classes were not proper and no examinations were conducted they felt suspicious. Inquiries found out that it did not have recognition or even a non-objection certificate from the Government. Three hundred students were in the 2005 batch and each student had paid around Rs. 19,000. They said in the complaint that same number of students were taken later in the year. After the complaint, Orleanpet police arrested two persons Arumugham and Velmurughan of Cuddalore, who were running the institute. Later, the police found that a similar institute functioned in Mudliarpet and picked up three persons. The arrested were A.T Rajan of Cuddalore, Ramesh and Sanjay, both hailing from Chennai.
