`FIR against Fernandes ridiculous'

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The registering of a first information report (FIR) against the former Defence Minister, George Fernandes, by the CBI in the Israeli Barak missile case is "ridiculous and the height of double standards," Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy said in a statement on Wednesday.

Citing the CBI argument that Mr. Fernandes was Defence Minister when the missiles were purchased by his Ministry, Dr. Swamy said the Rs. 1,250-crore deal was cleared by the then Cabinet Committee on Security and Mr. Fernandes was not responsible for it.
