Efforts continue to make Tirumala garbage-free

TTD launches special drive to prevent outbreak of dengue

TIRUMALA : With a view to preventing the outbreak of the deadly `dengue' fever currently gripping the country and the State as well, the TTD is gearing itself up for a special drive.

Rather conscious of the fact that any laxity in the matter in a place like Tirumala, visited daily by thousands of pilgrims would result in the aggravation of the situation, TTD Executive Officer A.P.V. Narayana Sarma on Wednesday inspected the sanitary conditions at the hill temple. He inspected vulnerable spots like dumping yards, sewage treatment plant, the washing areas in the massive Annadanam complex where free food is cooked and served daily to more than 15,000 pilgrims.

Directive to officials

He asked the officials to spread sand on the garbage heaps at the dump yard so that it could prevent swarming of flies.

He asked the Health and the Engineering officials to launch a special drive to make Tirumala garbage and litter-free and also to spray disinfectants in all vulnerable places in order to maintain utmost hygiene.

Sarma was accompanied by the TTD's Chief Engineer, Health Officer and others.
