Government told to file affidavit

Kochi: A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Wednesday directed the State Government to file an affidavit in response to a writ petition seeking a direction for setting up a task force to check the spread of chikungunya on a war footing and also for reviving the universal health insurance scheme introduced by the previous UDF Government for the treatment of below poverty line people.

The Bench comprising Chief Justice V.K. Bali and Justice P.R. Raman issued the directive when a petition filed by P.B. Muraleedharan, secretary, Kottayam District Congress Committee, came up.

The petition also sought a direction to the Government to award a compensation amount of not less than Rs.1 lakh to the victims or the families affected by the epidemic.

Varsity appointments

A Bench comprising Justice K.A. Abdul Gafoor and Justice K.P. Balachandran directed the Vice-Chancellor of the Sree Sanakaracharya University of Sanskrit to conduct a fresh interview for the notified vacancies in the posts of section officers.

The directive was issued while disposing of an appeal filed against the single judge's verdict quashing appointment of 20 candidates to the posts.

CBSE textbooks

A Bench comprising Chief Justice V.K. Bali and Justice P.R. Raman directed the National Council of Educational Research and Training to make available all textbooks for the CBSE students from Class I to XII in Kerala within a period of seven days from Wednesday.

The order was passed considering a public interest petition filed by the Institute of Social Welfare represented by its secretary Major M.G.C. Nair.
