KASSIA to set up B-school

Special Correspondent

The business management school will focus on small enterprises

  • Udyog Bhavan will host conferences and exhibitions
  • It will provide updated infrastructure for KASSIA's activities

Bangalore: The Karnataka Small-scale Industries Association (KASSIA) is setting up a school of business management that will focus on small enterprises and an Udyog Bhavan to host conferences and exhibitions.

"The Rs. 4-crore Udyog Bhavan is being built on West of Chord Road here. It will provide updated infrastructure for our activities including the school of business management, a sub-contract exchange and a documentation cell and a library, all to help small industries," KASSIA president R. Prithvi Raj told presspersons on Wednesday.

The association is disseminating information to its member industries about the implications of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 passed by Parliament. Among other things, it provides for industrial clusters in districts, more credit on easier terms for small enterprises and assistance to State Governments with similar programmes for small and medium industries.

"The State's industrial policy, which was a bit late in being announced, contains several inputs given by us and we welcome the policy framework. We will have meetings with District Industries Centres to provide publicity for the policy. We will also be fully involved in creating more jobs through the stipendary scheme of the Karnataka Government to select candidates for vocational training," Mr. Prithvi Raj said.

The industrial policy incorporated the association's proposal to provide separate funds for infrastructure development. New industrial estates to provide their own space for small units was another welcome feature, he said.
