KOLKATA: Indian football captain Baichung Bhutia was handed a three-match suspension and a fine of Rs. 50,000 for misbehaving with the referee during a match of the Calcutta Football League on Sept. 26.

The Mohun Bagan player was given the arching orders after he argued and confronted referee Debasish Mishra, who had pulled him up for an infringement against East Bengal defender Gurpreet Singh. He was also hauled up for disregarding the laws as he came off the field and sat on the reserves bench instead of leaving the ground as a red card offender.

This means Bagan will miss its talismanic striker for the rest of its encounters in the local league season. Bagan official Debasish Dutta and Brazilian physio Robson have been suspended for a match each for misconduct inside the technical area. — Principal Correspondent
