Good outing for South Africa

Mumbai: South Africa had a good outing against Saurashtra XI in a warm-up game at the MIG Club, Bandra here on Wednesday. South Africa won by 76 runs. The Australians were not as lucky as their match against Mumbai XI was abandoned because of a wet wicket caused by rain in the morning.

Graeme Smith, electing to bat, plundered 90 runs of 54 balls with 15 fours and three sixes. His opening partner, Boeta Dippenaar, was equally in a punishing mood, scoring 33 off 42 balls.

After the rousing start of 107 in 13. 5 overs, Jacques Kallis hammered 78 off 85 balls hitting ten fours. South Africa made 303 in 50 overs, in all hitting 35 fours and 7 sixes and provided entertainment to the spectators.

Saurashtra XI made 227 for five. Its seasoned campaigner Sitanshu Kotak made an unbeaten 82 off 145 balls with half a dozen fours and one six and thereafter Pratik Mehta slammed an 80-ball 95 before falling a run out victim to A. B. de Villiers.

The scores: South Africa 303 for eight in 50 overs (Graeme Smith 90, Jacques Kallis 78) bt Saurashtra XI 227 for five wkts in 50 overs (S. Kotak 82 not out, P. Mehta 95).
