GULBARGA: Three rounds of fogging operations would be taken up in the district from October 17 as a precautionary measure to check the spread of dengue. All urban civic bodies and panchayat raj institutions have been given strict instructions to take up cleaning operations, Deputy Commissioner Pankajkumar Pandey has said. He was speaking at the quarterly review meeting of the Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) chaired by Agriculture Marketing Minister Sharanabasappa Darshanapur, here on Wednesday. Except for a single case of suspected dengue fever reported in Gulbarga taluk, no fresh cases had been reported. Blood samples of the three-year- old boy from Nadi Sinnur village in the taluk, being treated at Basaveshwar Teaching and General Hospital, had been sent to National Institute of Virology, he said. Mr. Pandey, who is also administrator of Gulbarga City Corporation, said that in addition to the 28 fogging machines it had, 20 more had been purchased. Pesticides required for fogging operations and mini-gas cylinders were also being procured to take up three rounds of fogging operations, he said. Chief Executive Officers of all the 10 taluk panchayats in the district had been asked to ensure that all gram panchayats procured the required quantity of pesticides with the funds already available with them to take up fogging operations from October 17. District Health and Family Welfare Officer Nalini Namoshi said that 198 new cases of Leprosy had been identified in the district and included in the multi-drug therapy treatment programme. Last year, 288 new cases of leprosy were detected the district and 278 of them had been successfully treated. Apart from this, 2,795 new cases of malaria had been reported so far in the district this year as against the 3,068 cases reported last year. Mr. Pandey told the Minister that problem of shortage of paracetamol tablets in government hospitals had been solved with the arrival of fresh stocks. Mr. Darshanapur directed the District Surgeon of the Government General Hospital Sushila to take steps to maintain hygiene in the hospital. If necessary, the cleaning should be outsourced, he said. The Minister took exception to the complaints of patients being forced to purchase medicine from outside. Dr. Sushila said there was no shortage and as far as possible all medicines were being supplied free of cost.
