KOZHIKODE: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind's Kerala chapter has condemned the reported Government move to sanction 300 foreign liquor shops and to permit reopening of 1,500-odd toddy shops that were shut down in 2001. The State secretariat of the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind in a statement on Wednesday said the Government's proposals in this regard ran counter to the promise given at the election time by the LDF to organise campaigns against liquor. It being a fact that drinking habit wrecked families, there was no way the Government would be able to defend its moves. "There would be mass agitations if the Government opened liquor shops."
