12 arrested for attack on ambulance

MANGALORE: A police team headed by Harsha P.S., Assistant Superintendent of Police, Puttur sub-division, has arrested 12 persons in connection with the assault on nine persons travelling by an ambulance to Bajpe airport at Punchame under Bantwal Rural police station limits on Saturday. While one person died in the incident, five others who sustained grievous injuries.

Dr. Harsha told The Hindu here on Wednesday that the accused Dinesh alias Dhruva, Vivek Devadiga, Naveen Poojary, Neelaiah Poojary, Manjunath Devadiga, Venugopal, Anand Poojary, Karunakar Poojary, Naveen Poojary, Yogeesh, Sadashiva Achary and Mohan were nabbed late on Tuesday. The accused who were produced before the jurisdictional court have been remanded in judicial custody till October 21.

Declining to go into details of the arrest, Dr. Harsha said the police were on the lookout for others who were reportedly behind the incident.
