TIRUPATI: Minister for School Education Nedurumalli Rajyalakshmi will formally release the results of Education Common Entrance Test (EdCET-2005) at SV University Senate Hall on Friday. Age limit relaxed

HYDERABAD: The Higher Education Department has issued orders relaxing the upper age limit up to 35 years (40 years for SCs, STs) for the posts of 416 junior lecturers to be recruited through the AP Public Service Commission.

HYDERABAD: Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU) is now issuing application forms for admission into second specialisation of MBA programme. HYDERABAD: V. Dinesh Reddy, senior IPS officer, has been appointed as Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) on Wednesday.

Fast unto death

ADILABAD: Nineteen-year-old Manoja of Kannepalli in Bheemini mandal launched a fast unto death on Wednesday in front of the house of Taj Babu alias Deva, 21, at Sanjivayyanagar in Kagaznagar demanding justice. She alleged that the latter had reneged on the promise to marry her even after a three-year courtship which resulted in pregnancy.— Staff Reporter

Sangareddy: Application have been invited from NGOs interested in setting up special schools for rescued child workers in Medak district. A press release issued here on Wednesday by Collector B. HYDERABAD: Chief Electoral Officer V. Bhaskar has issued orders relaxing norms for enrolment of voters for the Council elections, according to a press release issued by the APTF. 9 students taken ill

ANANTAPUR: Nine students of Ammaji Balakarmikula Ashrama Patashala were hospitalised allegedly due to food poisoning on Tuesday night. Their condition was stable and some of them were discharged by Wednesday evening. They were immediately rushed to a hospital in Hindupur. — Staff Reporter

Meditation programme

AISF activists stage dharna

KURNOOL: School children led by AISF staged a demonstration at the Collectorate here on Wednesday urging the Government to provide basic amenities in schools and hostels. The AISF leaders said many schools were without toilets, classrooms and drinking water.

Meanwhile, the AISF wing at PG Centre organised road blockade demanding autonomous status to the PG centre.

SVU to set up info centre in Nellore Tirupati: Sri Venkateswara University is planning to set up an information centre at Venkatagiri Raja College in Nellore city for the benefit of students of the neighbouring districts. Vice-Chancellor S. Jayarama Reddy, who visited some affiliated colleges in Nellore and Kavali on Wednesday, felt the need for a centre to bridge the information gap. Reacting positively, MLA A. Vivekananda Reddy assured on behalf of the college management to arrange the infrastructure for setting up the centre.

Medical eye camps from October 12

ADILABAD : Four mega medical camps for screening illnesses related to the eye would be conducted shortly in connection the seventh World Sight Day being observed in Adilabad district on October 12. District Medical and Health Officer S. Vignanachary and District Immunisation Officer Babu told reporters here on Wednesday that this year's focus would be on prevention and control of blindness due to diabetic retinopathy. The mega camps would be conducted at Adilabad on October 15, Nirmal on October 22, Mancherial on October 29 and Bhainsa on November 5. Persons with disabilities would be referred to speciality hospitals following the screening.-Staff Reporter

Ganja seized

Sangareddy: The Excise officers led by Nizamabad zone Deputy commissioner B. Mohanlal seized standing ganja crop worth a staggering Rs 24.50 crores in Mainelli village of Manoor mandal on Wednesday. Mr. Mohanlal said that 16,32,000 ganja plants spread in an area of 12 acres has been confiscated from the village. The information has been passed on to the District collector and Superintendent of police for further action on the owners of the particular piece of fertile land. - Staff Reporter

Madanapalle : Madanapalle Sub Collector A. Babu has asked Panchayat Secretaries and ANMs to take up sanitation works on a war footing in view of the increasing cases of dengue. Speaking at a meeting of Thamballapalle officials here on Wednesday, he asked the ANMs to visit houses and take blood tests of residents.

JEYPORE: A three-day Jana Sampark camp organised by the police at Pukuli village, a naxal-prone area of Pottangi block in Koraput district, concluded on Monday.
