New DPCC Secretary felicitated

NEW DELHI: The Uttaranchal Pradesh Congress Committee organised a reception in honour of Haripal Rawat, the newly appointed Secretary of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee, at Uttaranchal Niwas here.

Addressing the large gathering, presided over by Uttaranchal Minister of State Dhirendra Pratap, DPCC president Ram Babu Sharma assured the people from Uttaranchal now living here in the Capital that they would be given adequate representation in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections due early next year.

CBI files chargesheet

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday filed a charge sheet against an Assistant Provident Fund Commissioner for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The CBI had registered a case against the official, M.K. Pandey, in February 2005. He was then posted at Chandigarh in the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation, Union Ministry of Labour.

Special train

NEW DELHI: To clear extra rush of passengers during winter holidays, Northern Railway will run a weekly special train (0905/0906) between Jammu Tawi and Bandra Terminus.

According to a Northern Railway release, the 0905 Bandra Terminus-Jammu Tawi will depart from Bandra Terminus at 11-15 a.m. every Saturday from October 7 to November 4 to reach Jammu Tawi at 10 a.m. on Monday.

In the return direction, the 0906 Jammu Tawi-Bandra Terminus weekly special train will depart from Jammu Tawi at 11-55 p.m. every Tuesday from October 10 to November 7 to reach Bandra Terminus at 8-10 a.m. on Thursday.

Tributes paid

NEW DELHI: Rich tributes were paid to Nicholas Roerich, the distinguished Russian painter and humanist, by eminent scholars, artists and art critics at a function, ``India Became His Second Motherland", here on Tuesday.

The function was organised jointly by the Russian Centre of Science and Culture and Roerichs' Museum of Arts Club to mark the 132nd birth anniversary of Roerich.

Aid for widows

NEW DELHI: Delhi Assembly Speaker Chaudhary Prem Singh on Wednesday distributed cheques under a Government scheme of the Department of Social Welfare to nine widows from the Ambedkar Nagar constituency. Cheques for Rs.20,000 were given to each woman who did not have any earning hand.
