KARIMNAGAR : Even as the district is yet to recover from the series of viral fevers and chikungunya cases, the fresh attack of dengue fever in the district has become a cause of concern for the Medical and Health Department in general and the people in particular. A week ago, the first dengue death was reported from the interior Bhupathipur village of Raikal mandal along the banks of river Godavari. Though officially, no dengue deaths have been reported, unofficial records state that the dengue death toll has mounted to six in Karimnagar district and several others were suffering from the disease in various parts of the district. Incidentally, there is high incidence of dengue fever cases in the mandals located along the shores of river Godavari.
Two deaths
Fresh on Tuesday, two deaths were reported from the district. M Latchaiah (40) of Rangasagar village of Sarangapur mandal succumbed to dengue in a private hospital. Amani (10) of lower Manairpuram of Thimmapur mandal also died of dengue fever in a private hospital in Hyderabad. In the meantime, Collector M. V. Satyanarayana has convened an emergency meeting with the medical and revenue authorities and instructed them to launch a crusade against the spread of dengue.
Special teams
He suggested that they launch a campaign to educate people to take preventive measures with proper sanitation in the villages. He also informed the officials to constitute special teams with the ANMs, anganwadi workers and village secretaries to conduct door-to-door survey and educate people about dengue. He also directed medical teams to make themselves available at their respective places of posting during this period and take necessary measures to avoid the spread of disease.
